full-bust adjustment on sorbetto

Last week I downloaded the free Sorbetto pattern from Colette, printed and assembled it, and cut it out in a size 12 for my 40-inch bust. The pattern looked really wide, so I thought maybe it was time to try out a full-bust adjustment for the first time.

A full-bust adjustment compensates for the fact that commercial patterns are made for a B cup and therefore don’t always fit well on people with larger cup sizes. Since I’m a C-D cup, an FBA is really something I should’ve been doing for a long time now. I blame my terrible laziness.

To do my FBA, I followed the directions outlined here on Sew L.A.  I printed and assembled the pattern again and cut it out in a size 8 to correspond with my high bust measurement of 37”. I wasn’t sure exactly how long I wanted to make the top, so I didn’t bother cutting out the bottom part yet. Then I held the front pattern piece up to my chest (making sure the pleat line and NOT the fold line was at the center of my chest) and marked my bust point, which you can see in red below.

It looks pretty low, right? I was worried that it was too low, but I held it up to my chest at least three times to make sure, and yep, that was the bust point. I decided to power through anyway and see what happened.
