Stickley Antique of the Week: Poppy Table
The model #26 Poppy Table was one of the earliest Arts & Crafts designs from Gustav Stickley’s Company. It was produced for a very short time in 1900 and reveals the English roots of the blossoming American Arts & Crafts Movement. Gustav said of this table, the “…motive for decoration is based on natural forms…where the legs suggest the stem of a plant while the tops reproduce the lines of an open flower.” This piece sold for $176, 500 when it came to auction at Sotheby’s in 2009.
