window shopping: button-down wool skirt inspiration
I know Brooks Brothers is for older male WASPs who are preppy and rich and smoke pipes and sit by the fire reading leather-bound classics in loafers and smoking jackets that have suede patches on the elbows, but…I like their stuff! To me, all this Seattle rain and gloom and gray doesn’t seem worth it if you don’t get to rock the wool skirts and cable-knit sweaters.
I’ve never actually been into a Brooks Brothers, so I don’t know what their prices are like, but I was thinking maybe I could make this skirt myself. I know how to make a pencil skirt, I would just need to split the front into two pieces, overlap them, and sew on some chunky buttons. I’ve only made pencil skirts in dupioni silk so far (great for parties), but I’m defs going to make at least one in chunky wool for work. I can just imagine it now: me in a tweed pencil skirt, with my knee-high brown wellies, traipsing through a golden field of tall grass with my hunting hounds by my side. Outta my way, Ralph Lauren! Skyfall here I come!

I recently got a question from an anon asking how to wear newsboy caps/flat caps… and my mind went into a spiral of fashion and wonderfulness. I think the better questions is: what COULDN’T you wear newsboy caps with? Ok, maybe they wouldn’t go with a frilly dress or a leather biker outfit. But beyond that, they’re pretty much embedded into every aspect of the fashion industry. Poeple are femmeing them up with lipstick and purls. Hipsters are thrifting them and wearing them with plaid and boots. Golfers and country clubbers are pairing them with argyle and preppy styles. And really cute queers are being really cute. But what’s new.
